Heroes Within
Friday
Ontario Association of Child and Youth CounsellorsThe last day of Heroes Within allowed the heroes of the evening before a bit of a break and there was no plenary session, (it's a sleep in!)
A Different Way of Learning Can Lead to Success
All in a Day: Building Self-Esteem in Youth
The Quest Program for ADHD and Learning Disabilities
Intensive Probation: A Family Preservation Model of Working with Families of Youth Offenders on Probation
Anti-Violence Work by School-Based CYCs: The CAVEAT Program in Hastings-Prince Edward
So You Want To Set Up "Private Practice"
The Language-Behavior Connection
For most, the conference ended with the lunch. There was additional programming with The Future for CYCs: Panel and Discussion.
Panelists:
Jackie Fargnoli, Metro Toronto CAS: From a lengthy career at a number of different levels within a large organization that has pioneered new roles for CYCs, Jackie will share her view of he future challenges for CYCs.
Kim Snow, Child Advocacy Office/Ryerson University/Private Practice: Besides being a former member of the OACYC executive, Kim speaks from the position of someone involved with the only BA program in CYC in Ontario, and with the investigation into the treatment of kids in care that ended with the recent inquest into the death of James Lonee.
Paul McCormack, Bartimaeus Inc.: Paul has a degree in business and psychology with a number of years of CYC experience--a perfect combination for someone to promote the profession in the business world. Hear about the prospects of your profession fro someone who has to 'sell' us to insurance companies and other funders who don't know that we have what they need.
Finally, there were Special Open Forums: The explosive growth of the OACYC in the past few years has led to new challenges and opportunities. These moderated discussion groups, open to members and non-members alike, are an opportunity to examine our situation and prepare for the future.
