Welcome to the Nova Scotia Child and Youth Care Worker's Association Web Page.
If there is anything we can do to help you, come in and give us your views, suggestions and concerns. The aims and
objectives of our Association requires us to keep completely informed about what is occurring in the child and youth
care field and to ensure that our members have opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge as child and youth
care workers. Members of the NSCYCWA are automatically a member of the national child and youth care
organization the Council of Canadian Child and Youth Care Associations. Having a direct link to the Council of
Canadian Child and Youth Care Associations and having knowledge of what is occurring within the province of Nova
Scotia may assist you with any questions you may have locally or nationally. Our web page may be able to assist you
in a number of ways, such as providing you with information as to how you may become a member, obtain links to
other important child and youth care workersÕ sites, information about our history, notices of upcoming conferences
or information about previous conferences, and simply answering questions about the NSCYCWA.
As our association grows, we welcome all child and youth care workers working within Nova Scotia to join our
association. To those of you from other provinces and other parts of the world viewing our web page we welcome
your feedback and suggestions.
If you can use our web page services, we welcome the opportunity to share our information with you. If you simply
want to view the site, enjoy the read! If you can take a few moments to share your thoughts with us, we would
sincerely welcome your comments.
Cordially,
NSCYCWA Executive

President Kelly Shaw lead a considerable delegation to Making Connections, the recent National Child
and Youth Care Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kelly was also elected Vice President of the
CCCYCA at the AGM.
HomeBridge Youth Society, Chisholm Treatment Centre, Children's Aid of Pictou, Bridges and NSCC
were all represented and presented several workshops at the conference.
Co-presenters Kelly Shaw and Mike Kaminski from Nova Scotia had a true chance
connection made standing out in front of the Delta in Winnipeg. The Honourable Jim
Rondeau, Manitoba Minister of Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors came along. He and
Mike had been teachers together back when and an attempt was made to check
schedules for a real meeting. Kelly did not believe the gentleman was a Minister of the
Crown and was handed a business card in response. The Minister could have been at the
conference as his portfolio has developed unique programs for youth including the Youth
Addictions Stabilization Unit, which includes youth care practitioners on each team.
